Understanding begins with attention.
Notice first.Stay curious.See the individual.

A moment.
Before a label.

Your dog pauses on a familiar walk. What was happening nearby? What could you see? What happened next?

You don’t have to settle on an explanation immediately. A clear observation gives you a place to begin—without assuming you already know what your dog is thinking.

Your Dog, Understood is a place for that practice: small moments, thoughtful questions, and attention to the dog who shares your life.

Small moments.
Useful questions.

Begin with an ordinary day.
There is no need to turn every moment into a lesson.

  1. 01 / NOTICE

    Find a focus.

Begin with a small prompt for noticing your dog’s everyday behavior.

What does your dog do when the walk slows down?

  2. 02 / RECORD

    Describe the moment.

Record what you saw, what was happening around your dog, and what happened afterward.

“She stopped, turned her head, and took two steps away.”

  3. 03 / REFLECT

    Explore with Coach.

Bring your questions to an AI conversation and consider what you might observe next.

What would be useful to notice next time?

The examples above illustrate the observation approach; they are not app screenshots or a diagnosis. AI can make mistakes.

Before deciding what your dog’s behavior means, take a moment to notice what happened. I’m Oliver Starr. I created Your Dog, Understood to help you start with the dog in front of you. Begin with a small focus. Record an everyday moment: what you saw, what was happening nearby, and what happened next. Then explore your questions with an AI Coach and consider what you might notice next. It’s educational support, not a substitute for veterinary or professional behavior advice. Look beyond
easy labels.

Breed can offer context. It is not a complete explanation of an individual dog.

A 2022 study in Science found that breed explained about 9% of individual behavioral variation in its sample. That does not make genetics irrelevant; it is a reason to look beyond stereotypes.

A 2020 study of companion dogs attending training schools also found welfare concerns associated with aversive training methods. Neither study tested this app or establishes its effectiveness.

A few good
questions.

Is Coach a person?

Coach is AI. Its responses may be wrong or incomplete. The app supports education and reflection; it does not provide an individual professional assessment.

Can it diagnose or treat a behavior problem?

No. Your Dog, Understood does not replace veterinary care, individualized behavior assessment or emergency help. Sudden changes, possible pain, fear, aggression and safety concerns call for appropriate professional support.

Do I need a smart collar?

No smart collar is required for the core observation and reflection experience.
